Frequently Asked Questions

I have compiled a list of answers to questions I am often asked regarding my practice and therapy. Hopefully, they can clarify any queries you might have and help you make a decision about starting working with me or therapy in general! :) I will be happy to answer any further questions you may have, so, please feel free to email me!

  • How should I book my appointment? What should I say when I contact you?
To book an appointment with me you can visit the ‘Contact,’ page on this website. You could either email or message me via SMS or WhatsApp. It would be helpful to mention your name, gender, pronouns, and age in the message, and that you’re looking to book an appointment with me.
  • What happens next?
After I hear from you, I will schedule an initial call with you. This call would be for about 20-30 minutes, without any charge. We would discuss your reasons for approaching therapy and I would be happy to clarify any doubts or even fears you might have about the therapeutic process. This would be a great opportunity to assess whether we would be a good fit for therapeutic work. You could see if you feel comfortable talking with me, a “vibe check,” of sorts. We would discuss your expectations from therapy, some goals you might have in mind, and what I could offer to you as your therapist, and explore how we can work towards your initial therapeutic goals. I would also like to discuss our ‘working agreement’ (look below for further information) and other administrative details such as confidentiality, boundaries, cancellation, and payment.
  • What is the working agreement? Do I have to sign anything before starting therapy?
The working agreement is a document that I would share with you after our initial call. It is a mutual agreement, which is signed by both the client and the therapist. It consists of certain parameters and characteristics of our therapeutic work, which allows you to make an informed decision about beginning work with me. This in turn helps us feel safe, with our rights protected allowing for a comfortable space! This is the only document we both need to sign before we begin therapeutic work.
  • What do I do if I or someone I know is in crisis?
This website and my services are NOT meant for emergency and crisis situations. Please do not wait for me to get back to you. • What is therapy? How is it useful?
Therapy can be described in various ways. I believe therapy is essentially a safe space for you to express yourself— your feelings, thoughts, ideas, and actions freely in a non-judgemental space. It allows you to gain insight into yourself, the world and people around you, and your relationships with the same. It helps you get in touch and in tune with your real self, which in-turns helps you make desired changes in your life. The mutual collaboration and relationship with the therapist allow for free, open dialogue which is guided by the therapist.
  • Will I have to share everything? Is it safe to open up to you?
There is no fixed rule about how much you should or should not share with your therapist! Share as per your pace and comfort, I would work with you and not against you at every step. I can assure you that I would listen openly and without judgment. Clients have the right to confidentiality in a therapeutic space. Everything you share with me would be kept between us. Confidentiality is broken if I believe that you are at risk to yourself or others around you, in which case I am ethically bound to break confidentiality to protect the life and safety of you or any other person concerned. More details about confidentiality are also covered in the working agreement, which you would sign as per your choice before our first session.
  • Is therapy for everyone?
While some people may not find therapy helpful for them, I do believe therapy is for everyone. This is to say that one does not quantify the need for therapy based on the seriousness or severity of the issues they are dealing with. Therapy can simply be a space to understand yourself better, and give attention to one’s mental health. One does not have to wait till things are extremely difficult to seek therapy, all issues, no matter their weight, are subjectively and personally very important and valid.
  • Are you in Supervision?
I have a “Supervisor,” who is essentially a fellow experienced Psychologist. Supervision is a very useful tool to ensure ethical and helpful therapeutic practices. It allows me to explore my role and position as a therapist and makes space for continued professional development under supervised guidance.
  • Can you diagnose me with any mental health disorder(s)?
I do not have the professional capacity to diagnose you with any mental health disorder. My therapeutic approach is not clinical or diagnostic. I believe a clinical lens limits one’s worldview and understanding of their feelings, actions, and thoughts. While diagnoses can be helpful, and important, it does not govern my approach which is more holistic. We may seek a diagnosis if we mutually agree it is beneficial and helpful to you as the client.
  • What age group of clients do you work with?
I work with adult clients, which is anyone over the age of 18.
  • Do you work with all genders and sexualities?
Yes. I am LGBT+ friendly and affirmative in my practice. Therapeutic and health-related spaces have often been unsafe for people belonging to the LGBT+ community. I ensure that I will take steps from my end to make the space safe and comfortable for you. Your identity will be respected, and we will have open dialogue and feedback about how I can make this space safer for you! I am a cis-gender woman so I would take an active effort to bridge that gap in understanding your experiences and Self better.
  • Where do the sessions take place?
I am currently working as an online therapist. The sessions would be held via video calls, so decent Wifi/Internet connection would be good to have. You can attend the sessions from any place you find comfort, and a certain level of privacy if possible. I ask for a private space because it would help you feel safe, and communicate more freely. I understand that this may not always be possible for everyone, so let me know if it isn’t and we can work around it!
  • How long are the sessions? How often are they?
The sessions would last for about 55-60 minutes. The frequency of sessions would be decided based on the client’s needs and my judgment of how often we might need to see each other, based on the concerns brought into therapy. The most common frequency, however, is once a week.
  • How many sessions do I need?
There is no fixed number of sessions one is require to take part in. It’s more about how many sessions you feel you want and need! I would recommend trying at least 5-6 sessions with me in order to fully understand whether the therapeutic process is working for you, whether it’s working with me as your therapist, and its impact on your life.
  • How do we end therapy?
We always attempt to end therapy with at least one closing session or more if we mutually feel a need for the same. Therapy consists of a mutual alliance/relationship between the therapist and the client. Providing a good ending to this relationship can often be helpful, and reinforces all that has been gained and learned through the therapeutic process for both of us. The closing session focuses on the progress made, what we have learned, and what we are taking away from this experience. It is also an opportunity for you to give me feedback, or tell me anything else you would like to do before therapy ends.
  • Can I cancel a session once scheduled?
Yes! However, if you cancel within 18 hours of the session, you would have to pay the full session amount. Please, do let me know anytime before that. The cancelation policy is such that we can respect each other’s time, and I am able to plan my sessions with other clients appropriately too.
  • Do you work with clients outside India?
Yes! I am open to accepting clients from across the globe.
  • How much do you charge for your sessions?
I am currently charging 1400 rupees per session for clients living in India. The fee for international clients is 2400 rupees per session.
  • Do you offer subsidised rates?
I have a fixed number of slots for students and others who are not able to currently afford the standard fee for sessions. If there is a slot available for you I would let you know, and rates on a sliding scale (lower priced) will be offered!
  • Q. How can I make the payment to you?
You can either directly transfer the amount to my bank or use GooglePay to make the payment. If either of these methods don’t suit you, you can contact me and we can figure it out from there.
